This band is a new collaboration of very accomplished musicians. “We are all so excited about what we are creating,” says Hal Keshner, “When we play, there is energy that goes around and makes it special.”
Here are the people who make up this unique blend of talents:
Hal Keshner: Professional keyboard player, guitar, and Jazz Kazoo. He has played with different bands and musical director for oldies groups, big bands, musicals and children’s community theater.
Paul Speziale: Guitar player who plays acoustic guitar for this band to get the Count Basie feel. He and Hal met at college and have been friends ever since.
Butch Holland: Bass guitar player who’s been friends with Hal for 40 years. He plays backup for soul and doo-wop bands, in addition to church music.
Lou Imparato Jr: Drummer, “There are a lot of things that you can’t teach – it’s not in the music. He just knows how to do it. He’s got that feel.” Says Hal.
Sonny “Conga” Ruiz: Latin percussion, “He is the real deal” says Hal, “He’s playing two congas, bongos, bell tree and assorted sound effects”.
Bruce Schaffel: Alto saxophone, is a long time Broadway and jazz musician. “He’s terrific! says Hal, “His playing is both fluid and powerful”.
Danny Patiris: Tenor sax, all reed instrument, and arranger. He has had careers on both coasts and played in many Broadway shows. Danny can play any reed instrument. He has a distinctive tenor sound that enhances our music,” says Hal.
Crystal “Songbird” Spivey: Both a jazz and soul vocalist, has sung at St. Patrick Cathedral and for the Pope at Madison Square Garden. “She has the most amazing vocal range that you can imagine – going from a bluesy growl up to a high sweet soprano” says Hal.
Their set ranges from jazz to blues to church music. “We connect on many levels as we are playing and that is why the magic is so wonderful.” says Hal.
