Frank Ocasio has been playing at the Stony Music Fest since 2017, and we love hearing his amazing band every year! More about that story below, but first…here’s some of his band, F.O.B.B at a show in Middletown NY on March 25th:
A History of the Frank Ocasio Brother Band
Before founding this band, Frank Ocasio, vocalist, song writer, and guitarist, was in the band, The Authority, and played hundreds of gigs around the country and opened for some big names including Phish, Meatloaf, Blues Traveler and Spin Doctors.
Some years later, Frank formed The Frank Ocasio Brother Band. “I called it ‘The Brother Band, because we have a special relationship,” says Frank Ocasio, vocalist and guitarist and Frank Cotto, bass player have been playing for 31 years. “He is like is brother in music and life” says Frank Ocasio.” He’s one of the baddest bass players in the world. Danny Castro, the drummer, is a younger guy who fits right in. He is a super talent!”
They have been recording:
- Frank Ocasio Soul Blaster – 2015 – Rock, funk, Frank Ocasio
- Taino NY – 2018 – Latin rock, Frank Ocasio
- Frank Ocasio Guitar Man – Funk, R&B and Rock and Roll with Danny and Frank Cotto
When asked what he likes most about playing his original music, Frank lights up.”When I play my music, I feel like I lift off the ground. I like the freedom, I am able to express through the music what I feel – musically and lyrically. It comes from that little spot in the middle of you, I call it The Holy Spirit. When someone appreciates it, it’s the greatest reward!”
One night “I was playing at the Wetlands and people were loving it. I go to take a break, and there was this guy in a suit staring at me. ‘You guys are fantastic’, he said and shook my hand.” It was David Burns from Talking Heads”
“I love to connect to the people who love our music,” says Frank “I always give back or help them in other ways. With music, as in any hobby, you want to see how far you can take this, how much passion you have for this.

FRANK HAS BEEN WITH STONY MUSIC FEST SINCE ITS INCEPTION
Every year, Frank has been a vital part of the Stony Music Fest scene we’ve been building since 2015. Back then it was a jam session, with a bunch of friends that wanted to play music in the park. During the 2017 event (held at Charles C. Eccher Park), Frank walked up to one of the organizers and asked if he could play a set, to which the organizers said yes.
20 minutes later, Frank was set up in the park pavilion, playing funk, blues and rock as if he just got off of stage with the band Phish.
Little did we know until years later that Frank actually did play on the same stage with Phish and a variety of other prominently-known bands. In this video, Frank is playing with the band The Authority, which was the opening act for Phish in the ’90s at several music festivals. Frank also jammed with Tre Anastasio, the lead guitarist and vocalist for Phish.
But Frank is so much more than just an amazing guitarist. He’s an inspiration. Not only for the audiences that get to listen to the F.O.B.B. band, but to local musical artists that are seeking to refine their craft to do the same. Frank also has been helpful to our cause to bring more of a musical culture and economy to ROCKLAND.
In short – we love Frank. And you will, too on June 25th. Whether you’re listening to his dirty sweet riffs, following his amazing solos, or taking in the pure energy of the F.O.B.B. performance, you’ll feel the energy from each and every one of the original songs he and the band play for you, at the 8th annual Stony Music Fest.
